How to Keep Safe from Lightning Strikes in Poland, OH
4/18/2022 (Permalink)
Staying safe from lightning involves being aware of when it is coming. If you begin to hear thunder and receive a thunderstorm alert warning from your local weather channel, then you know lightning is on the way. When a thunderstorm comes, stay indoors! Lightning is more likely to strike if you are the tallest object in a flat land. The CDCprovides these tips if you do find yourself outdoors when lightning strikes:
- Never lie flat on the ground.
- Never shelter under an isolated tree.
- Immediately get out of and away from ponds, lakes, and other bodies of water.
- Stay away from objects that conduct electricity (such as barbed wire fences, power lines, or windmills).
- Never use a cliff or rocky overhang for shelter.
