How to Discourage Birds from Nesting on Your Commercial Property

Morning sun, green grass, and birds chirping are all signs of spring. As the seasons change, birds migrate, and when they do, they need a safe place to nest. The drawback is that the nests are not always wanted by the buildings’ inhabitants.
A mud nest can not only be an eyesore, but also cause damage to the structure of the building. Bird removal is not always easy, and many removal methods are illegal. The best bird cleaning strategies are preventative.
- Mock Predators
It may be illegal to physically remove birds from your building, but you can still take preventative measures to scare them off. Visual deterrents that resemble natural predators can be an effective method to discourage birds from taking up residence on your commercial building. For an even more effective method, move the deterrent to different locations so the birds do not become comfortable with it.
- Physical Barriers
A net that covers the awnings where birds prefer to nest can prove to be quite troublesome for them. If a spot is too difficult to reach, birds will often give up and find a new and easier place to reach. Nets are typically inexpensive and easy to install.
- Covered Landing Zone
If the net is not enough, you may have to make the place birds like to land and assemble their homes inhospitable. A sloping apparatus can make it nearly impossible for birds to get their footing. Without steady footing, they are unable to build their nest and your building remains bird free.
You may not be able to control exactly where and when birds nest, but you can take preventative measures to ensure it is not on your commercial building.
