Has Your Boardman Home been Struck by a Spring Storm?
4/6/2023 (Permalink)
Recently, Northeast Ohio has been struck by some inopportune weather that has ultimately led to power outages, roads blocked by fallen trees, and many other inconveniences. Was your Poland home affected by this crazy weather? Whether it was or not, here’s some tips for future spring weather preparation…
- Sign up for weather text alerts.
- Familiarize yourself with your insurance plan and your disaster restoration company of choice, SERVPRO of Mahoning and North Columbiana Counties.
- Make sure your yard is clean and free of debris, toys, and light equipment.
- Examine the exterior of your home (this may include having to do some cleaning of your gutters and downspouts).
- Create an emergency-ready kit that includes battery packs, flashlights, an emergency-ready meeting place, a First Aid kit, bottled water, non-perishable food, blankets, personal hygiene items, and possibly a change of clothes.
- If you know that the storm will be severe, you may want to go so far as to board up your windows.
- Keep a clean area in your basement with the emergency-ready kit, and the emergency-ready plan where you and your family can stay safely (if you do not have a basement, you should choose a room with the least amount of windows, closer to the center of the home).
- Purchase a landline for your home in case of cellphone towers going down.
- Keep an eye on your sump pump! If it overflows, you will have to deal with water damage on top of everything else.
- Be prepared to turn off your electricity! Even though you may not want to, it helps to prepare.
These are just a few tips to keep your Youngstown home and its inhabitants safe during these spring storms.
